Does CBD Really Work?

The #1 question we get about CBD

Whether we’re talking to our customers at our local farmer’s market in Cortland, NY or having conversations with our audience on social media, the most common question we get from CBD-curious people is: But does it really work?

We definitely understand this question and where it’s coming from.

Ever since CBD flooded the marketplace with the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, this cannabis compound has been popping up in everything from coffee to skincare products to dog treats and is often touted as a wonder drug that can treat everything from acne to cancer.

Yet for all the hype, it can be hard for a first-time CBD consumer to sort through the sea of information to understand how CBD works and to find transparent companies with reputable business practices.

At Head & Heal, we’re committed to transparency. So we’re excited to share a bit of the science behind how CBD works and what our customers are saying about their results, so you can decide (with the help of your doctor and medical team) if CBD might work for you.

How CBD works: the endocannabinoid system

The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a recently discovered regulatory system of the human body, whose role is to help maintain homeostasis, a.k.a. keep your body in balance.

Cannabinoids are a special type of neurotransmitters, and can either be made inside the body, or made by plants and ingested to produce an effect. Cannabinoids produced by the body are called endogenous cannabinoids, and those made by plants are called phytocannabinoids and include the compounds CBD, CBG, CBN and THC.

These cannabinoids interact with specialized receptor sites found all throughout the body, and are believed to help regulate many bodily functions including sleep, memory, inflammation, appetite, and more.

CBD is a phytocannabinoid derived from the hemp plant, which functions much like our own cannabinoids. Since everyone’s ECS functions differently, CBD will impact people differently.

It is believed that some conditions like migraines, fibromyalgia, and IBS may be linked to a dysregulation or dysfunction of the endocannabinoid system caused by an endocannabinoid deficiency. Taking phytocannabinoids like CBD can help bring your body into balance by supporting the proper function and tone of your endocannabinoid system.

Why our customers take CBD

We surveyed over 500 of our customers and found that the top three reasons they take CBD were pain, anxiety, and insomnia. Depression was another common reason. We then polled our customers to see how their reported levels of pain, anxiety, insomnia, and depression shifted after taking our CBD.

CBD often gets marketed as a magical cure-all. While there is no such thing as a wonder drug, we do hear stories from our customers about the wonderful benefits they get from CBD.

When looking at the data from our customer survey, we noticed a common trend. Whether our customers were taking CBD for pain, anxiety, insomnia, or depression, the majority reported that CBD reduced the intensity of their symptoms by half.

But all CBD isn’t created equally.

If you want CBD that works, the stuff from your local smoke shop probably won’t cut it. This is what makes our CBD different.

If you’re turning to CBD for relief from chronic pain, anxiety, or insomnia, you’ll want to find a high quality product.

Since the CBD industry isn’t FDA-regulated, there are sadly many snake oil products capitalizing on people’s desire to feel better.

Their hemp isn’t grown to be high quality, they don’t properly test their products, and they don’t share their lab reports, so you can’t actually be sure what you’re getting in their CBD. While we can’t claim that our CBD will work wonders for you, we can take you behind-the-scenes into how our CBD oils, topicals, softgels, and other products are created.

It all begins on our USDA Certified Organic farm in Cortland, NY. We start all our hemp seeds ourselves, use sustainable farming practices, and pay our farmers a living wage. We then hang dry each hemp plant, preserving the delicate cannabinoids and terpenes.

This may create a lot of extra work that other CBD companies skip over, but we believe the results speak for themselves. 54% of our customers said they tried other CBD brands but will now only use Head & Heal, while another 31% said they’ve only ever used our CBD. And in a survey of over 500 customers, the vast majority said they’d recommend Head & Heal to a friend.
