CBN meets CBD for a Better Night's Sleep

The Best Medicine? A Good Night’s Sleep

Sleep (or a lack of it) has been shown to affect memory, mental health, and the chances of experiencing heart disease, diabetes, and stroke.

Sadly, many people struggle with this key component of health, which can ripple out into other areas of their lives. Nearly 1 in 10 adults in the US will experience chronic insomnia, and as many as 1 in 2 adults will have short term insomnia.

While there are many over-the-counter and prescription sleep aids, more and more people are turning to CBD oil for help with falling (and staying) asleep. CBD, derived from the cannabis plant, is a nonpsychoactive cannabinoid, meaning it won’t get you high. Valued for its potential relaxing, anti-anxiety benefits, CBD can address the root issues of sleep disorders, which are often stress and anxiety.

But CBD isn’t the only cannabinoid that can help with sleepless nights.

Emerging research suggests that CBN also has the possibility of improving the quality of your sleep.

What Is CBN?

CBN, or cannabinol, is a cannabinoid. That means it’s a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant, and when it’s consumed, it interacts with receptors in our endocannabinoid system.

The endocannabinoid system helps our bodies regulate mood, pain perception, the immune system, appetite, sleep, and more.

CBN occurs naturally as the cannabis plant is exposed to heat and oxygen, causing THC to convert to CBN.

Of all the cannabinoids, CBN is known for its sedative quality, making it a possible treatment for people struggling with sleep.

Potential Benefits and Uses of CBN

While there are many studies on the effects of THC and CBD, there’s still a lot we don’t know about how CBN works, in either its isolated form or when interacting with other cannabinoids, in what’s known as the entourage effect.

Preliminary research shows that CBN can be a beneficial sleep aid, as well as promising these other benefits.

    • Pain relief: A 2002 study showed how CBN potentially works together with THC as a pain-killer.
    • Antibacterial properties: A 2008 study revealed that five major cannabinoids, including CBN, were effective at treating an antibiotic-resistant infection.
    • Anti-inflammatory properties: A study in 2009 explored how cannabinoids, including CBN, work within our endocannabinoid system to reduce inflammation, which is an underlying issue in many health conditions.
    • Increased appetite: A 2012 study showed that CBN may be an appetite stimulant in rats. Interestingly CBD has the opposite effect and is believed to decrease appetite. Further research is needed, but CBN-rich products could be a beneficial treatment for people with suppressed appetite due to cancer or its treatment.

Introducing Head & Heal’s Sleep Tincture! CBD:CBN 1:1

When we asked our customers what products they’d like to see us develop, the #1 request was “a tincture specifically formulated to help people fall and stay asleep.”

So we did just that!

In each dropper of our CBD:CBN oil, we’ve combined 10 mg of our full spectrum CBD with a CBN isolate. This increases the CBN content in our oil, while still providing the full spectrum of cannabinoids to create the entourage effect.

When we asked our customers what products they’d like to see us develop, the #1 request was “a tincture specifically formulated to help people fall and stay asleep.”

A CBN Bedtime Routine for Better Sleep

44% of our customers take our CBD tincture before bedtime. We’d recommend the same for our CBD:CBN Sleep Tincture, which you can take up to an hour before bed.

If you can, try incorporating our Sleep Tincture into a consistent bedtime routine, limiting electronic use thirty minutes before you plan to fall asleep. Start with a low dose of the tincture, hold it under your tongue for thirty seconds, then wind down with some stretching, calming music, reading, or any relaxing activity.

With the power of CBD, CBN, and a consistent bedtime routine, we hope you’ll find a night of sweet dreams.

Have you tried CBD or CBN to fall asleep? How’d it work for you? What’s your favorite way to incorporate hemp-derived products into your bedtime routine?
