Cannabidiol, more commonly known as CBD, is becoming an increasingly popular wellness product on the market — and signs only point onward and upward. In 2018, the US Farm Bill legalized industrial hemp and the medical and recreational use of cannabis at the state level. As a result, recent studies project that CBD sales in the U.S. will surpass $20 billion by 2024.
Does CBD seem like it’s everywhere? Today, it’s infiltrating drugstores, beauty salons, and even gas stations. Everyone from your friends, family, and coworkers is interested in adding CBD to their wellness routine in some way, shape or form. But everyone is still a little confused when it comes to figuring out what product to buy, how it works, and so on. To help clear the air, we’ve answered some of your most burning questions when it comes to CBD.
What is CBD?
CBD is a naturally occurring chemical compound derived from the cannabis or hemp plant. In fact, there are over 100 different types of cannabinoids that can be found in cannabis. Unlike another well-known cannabinoid, Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is non-psychoactive. This means that it doesn’t have a cognitive effect on the brain and as a result, doesn’t produce the “high” that’s associated with it’s relative, THC.
How does CBD work?
CBD integrates with our internal system, the endocannabinoid system. This system is a homeostasis regulator that’s made up of neurotransmitters that aid in regulation. In other words, it helps keep the human body in balance by producing its own cannabinoids, endocannabinoids. CBD is structured similarly to endocannabinoids and therefore may help promote overall well-being.
What are the benefits of CBD?
CBD may provide possible therapeutic benefits as a result of its potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidepressant, anticonvulsant, antitumoral, antipsychotic, and neuroprotective qualities. Therefore, CBD may help:
- maintain physical and mental well-being
- promote relaxation
- relieve inflammation
- alleviate occasional stiffness and soreness
Although the potential benefits of CBD are alluring, it’s important to note that researchers are still studying the impact of CBD on conditions like anxiety, chronic pain, PTSD, and beyond.
How do I use CBD?
CBD can be integrated into a wellness routine in many ways. Here are some popular ways to receive its potential benefits:
Tinctures: CBD tinctures are a convenient means for ingesting CBD, especially with their long shelf life. Tinctures are designed to be taken orally, under the tongue, for easy absorption. Using a dropper, the dosage can be easily controlled by increasing or decreasing the drops.
Topicals: CBD topicals can come in different forms of lotions and salves. It can be a great option to receive the potential benefits of CBD without consumption.
Softgel capsules: CBD capsules are designed for easy consumption. They are a simple, convenient option for users to receive an exact amount.
It’s important to speak to your doctor before using CBD. Additionally, be sure to do your research to find the best option that fits into your lifestyle. Check out a wide range of CBD products here.
